Why Am I Running

I’m running as I believe a different approach to handling the city’s issues is needed. The city has an important role in ensuring every landowner and tenant is free to plan for the future use of their land based on current zoning, rules and regulations.  Preference should be to leave the rules the way they are but if the zoning, rules or regulations need to change in a way that forces existing landowners and tenants to change their plans the city must show how those changes are creating value to entire neighborhoods, the city or even the state.

One of the most important issues for Lehi is ensuring that as a governing body it stays out of landowner’s and tenant’s lives as much as possible. The city should play the role as arbiter between the landowners and tenants of Lehi. The city shouldn’t be there to pick a winner or loser but instead is there to ensure the city wins. The city wins when the resolution of conflicts around land use lead to the creation of value for an entire neighborhood, the city or the state and thus make Lehi a more attractive place to live and work.

    1. I can’t truly consider myself 100% of either one, I’m a registered Independent. I don’t find those labels are a useful metric for determining one’s propensity to make good decisions. I tend to find that many claiming to be an ideologue on either side of that spectrum have a hard time making the rational, reasoned decisions necessary to ensure all resident’s rights are maintained. I think it’s important to listen to both sides of an issue, get expert analysis and inform oneself to assess a decision’s impact on residents. Then taking into account everyone’s rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness one can make the best decision possible.

      Thanks for asking!

  1. One of the problems I see with the current city council is that it feels like it is the “good ol’ boys club” and that not all residents are represented. How will you represent all of Lehi and not just the “good ol’ boys?”

    1. I’ve felt the same as you. I moved into the area for work in 2006, moving to Lehi in 2013. I understand how things work and what is important to residents but I don’t have a network of people I am connected to. I feel that can make me a more impartial representative.
